Hong Kong Student Aid Society sincerely thanks Ms. Margaret Poon for initiating the “Music for Children” Charity Music Education Programme, and for inviting renowned music producer Mr. Clayton Cheung, singer Mr. Gavin Tao, and lyricist Anita Chung to join hands in creating the charity single “我是我 活得好的證據”. Through this song, they hope to speak up for children and share the power of kindness through music.
The four music and creative partners have contributed their professional knowledge and influence to the creation of this charity single, turning the song into a meaningful gift for children. Through music, they hope more children in need can gain opportunities to learn, grow and be supported.
Before the official launch of the programme, Margaret Poon, Mr. Gavin Tao and Mr. Clayton Cheung have taken the lead in donating HK$30,000, planting the first seed for this meaningful initiative. They hope this will encourage the public to learn more about these children, and help them see a brighter future through music.
Why Hong Kong Student Aid Society?
Since its establishment in 1957, Hong Kong Student Aid Society has been serving children and young people in need. The Society is dedicated to operating residential care services, providing 24-hour daily care, meals and support for thousands of children and young people from broken or low-income families. We also carry the mission of nurturing these children, helping them grow and supporting families in need in the community.
We firmly believe that every child has unique potential. However, for many children, family financial difficulties limit their access to arts and music. When basic living needs must come first, music lessons, musical instruments and performance experiences are often among the first opportunities to be set aside.
Music is More Than a Talent
We believe music education is never just about learning an instrument. It is a form of companionship, through music, children can learn focus, cooperation and perseverance. They can also express feelings through melody that may be difficult to put into words.
For children who have experienced family hardship, trauma or adversity while growing up, music can become a source of strength that supports them to keep moving forward. Perhaps everything begins with just one music lesson. Yet this very first step may change the way a child sees themselves.
Lighting Up Children’s Future Through Melody
Through this programme, we hope to provide more opportunities for children from low-income families to access music, so that they do not have to give up their dreams because of financial difficulties.
Your support will be used for:
• Instrumental and vocal learning subsidies
• Music appreciation and performance experiences
• Music-related growth and development activities
We hope that what children receive is not only musical knowledge.
Through every practice, every performance and every round of applause, we hope they can build confidence, discover their own value, and bravely sing their own stories.
Starting today, the “Music for Children” Charity Music Education Programme is officially launched, with a fundraising target of HK$300,000. All donations will be made to Hong Kong Student Aid Society and used to support children from low-income families in developing their interest in music and receiving related educational services.
We sincerely invite you to walk alongside Ms. Margaret Poon, Mr. Gavin Tao, Mr. Clayton Cheung and Hong Kong Student Aid Society, so that more children can find their own voices through music and bravely pursue their dreams. Because every child deserves to have a melody of their own.
