Tung Wan Mok Law Shui Wah School and Island Hostel greatly increased their service quota
Tung Wan Mok Law Shui Wah School (TWS) and Island Hostel (IH), which have served in Shek Pik on Lantau Island for half a century, moved into a new premises on Wong Yin Street, Tuen Mun on 30 October last year after years of preparation and construction. The maximum capacity of IH is 144 with a total of 8 homes. In the first phase, the Social Welfare Department approved the operation of 108 residential placements, that is 6 homes. The new school has a maximum capacity of 192 places with a total of 16 classes, of which 48 places are day students. In the first stage, TWS was approved by the Education Bureau to operate 10 classes, in which 7 classes for primary students and 3 classes for junior secondary students. After moving from the remote Lantau Island to Tuen Mun, the number of places in the school and the hostel has been greatly increased, which can serve more students and families in need, especially residents in the New Territories.
New Tuen Mun premises focus on promoting the "LEAP” Project
Many students of Tung Wan Mok Law Shui Wah School have special education needs. According to the characteristics of the students, the school promoted the "LEAP” Project to assist them in their development in sports, art and career planning, including adventure counseling, music, drama education, life education and STEM etc. The school built students’ self-confidence and resilience through adventure training. In the aspect of music and drama, Chinese music and percussion music will be developed in the future. The school will co-organize a 4-year program with The Absoletely Fabulous Theatre Connection (AFTC), including teacher training, student performing arts training and stage design, etc.
The school built a black box theater in the new school. Students can learn the setting design and lighting effects while having training in drama. The school hopes to provide students with diversified learning experiences through the development of life planning education. In addition, in life education, Professor Lam Shui Fong from the Department of Psychology of the University of Hong Kong will conduct mindfulness training for students. Therefore, a new meditation room was built in the new school, where children can practise how to calm their emotions, learn to be grateful, live in the moment, and develop a positive attitude to face difficulties.
