Brief Introduction
Hong Kong Student Aid Society has started to provide Foster Care since November 2004. We are now providing a complete spectrum of residential child care services for needy children and their families. |
|
Service Target
Foster Care is meant for children devoid of proper family care due to different reasons e.g. ill health, death and imprisonment of parents as well as families undergoing crises. Foster Care is provided to these children until such time they are able to return to normal life of their original families, or are able to settle down in other more long-term form of residential care.
Features of the Service
Foster care service is provided by selected foster families that have gone through a stringent assessment process.
Foster care provides needy children with a clean and safe environment to live in.
The foster home provides a warm and caring family life very much similar to that of a healthy and normal family.
Regular visits would be provided by trained social workers to foster families.
Whenever necessary, appropriate counselling and different kinds of professional support would be given to the foster families.
It would be the responsibility of the social workers to attend patiently to the needs of the children and to tailor make a welfare plan best suiting every child in care.
Target Group
Children aging from infancy to 18.
Children temporarily deprived of proper family care.
Children not suffering from serious health, emotional and behavioural problems.
Children who have been medically examined and certified as not suffering from infectious diseases.
Children who are assessed as suitable for Foster Care.

All referrals from qualified social workers of the Social Welfare Department and subvented agencies will be screened by the Central Foster Care Unit (CFCU) administered by the Social Welfare Department. Selected cases will then be relayed to us.
