KMB donates used and retired bus to Tung Wan Mok Law Shui Wah School

Students and teachers of Tung Wan Mok Law Shui Wah School, operated by Hong Kong Student Aid Society, will now be able to enjoy learning on a retired bus provided by The Kowloon Motor Bus Co. (1933) Ltd. (“KMB”) under its Used and Retired Bus Programme.

Tung Wan Mok Law Shui Wah School (TWS), a school for social development, is dedicated to providing special education for students with emotional and behavioural difficulties. The school plans to regenerate the retired bus with a theme of “TWS Eco Bus Lab,” incorporating school-based nature courses and STEM education elements.

To develop students’ interest in science and nature, the school will refurbish the upper deck for diversified exploration learnings and experiments. There will also be a reading area to cultivate students’ reading habits and let them enjoy the pleasure of reading. Meanwhile, the lower deck will install an aquaponics system to teach students about the ecosystem. They will share the harvest from the area with the elderly in the community. The bus captain cab will be equipped with a driving simulation function to allow students to enjoy the bus driving experience.

The Principal of Tung Wan Mok Law Shui Wah School, Mr. Cheuk Tak Kan, expressed his gratitude to KMB. “The School can put nature courses into the ‘TWS Eco Bus Lab’ to enhance students’ curiosity and interest in science, and nurture them to love life and enjoy sharing.”

KMB aims to convert retired buses for educational purposes, as a different way of serving Hong Kong, while achieving the objective of recycling resources. These donations also allow the schools to use their creativity to give a new meaning to the old bus and assist students in chasing their dreams in an enhanced learning atmosphere.
