Island Hostel provided support and training for parents
Island Hostel held a workshop on "Children’s Training Tips" for the parents of the residents on November 26. The workshop provided skills to train children with special education needs at home, and to understand the difficulties and limitations that children face in learning. The programmes included training of hand-eye coordination and sense of space, as well as improving children’s communications skills through Lego activities. This workshop could promote the cooperation between the Hostel and parents, and help parents teaching their children effectively.

Our CEO was invited to attend the Grand Opening of Jet Chou Chess Academy
Our Chief Executive Officer, Mrs Candy Yeung attended the grand opening of Jet Chou Chess Academy on 27 November. The Chess Academy was founded by our alumnus, Mr Chou Sai Kit, Jet. Jet Chou awarded The Ten Outstanding Young Persons 2020 and is a chess grandmaster. When he was young, he lived in Holland Hostel due to the family issue. While living in Hostel, Jet was able to pursue his chess dream and became a professional Chess Coach.

Six Bricks Workshop to enhance the sensory experience
Lok Fu Small Group Home used a themed toy—Six Bricks, to allow children make good use of the five senses, stimulating different learning methods through games. This encourages them not only to rely on visual and acoustic senses to understand things and receive information, but also to increase their learning experience and interest, and strengthen their sensitive observation and in-depth understanding of things around them.

Thanksgiving cum Graduation Ceremony was held to express gratitude to house parents
Lok Fu Yan Mong Small Group Home held the "Children's Words of Thanksgiving" Graduation Ceremony on 30th June 2021. Under the epidemic, the number of outdoor activities and large-scale events has decreased. However, the House parents and relief house parents held many extra exciting activities at home. Everyone gathered together to enjoy the video highlighting the memorable moments of last year.

HKSAS surrenders the site at Shek Pik, Lantau Island to the Government
With peaceful and inspiring natural environment, the Island Hostel and School provided every child with care and love in Lantau Island for over 50 years. Due to keen demand for our services, the hostel and school moved to a new site in Wong Yiu Street, Tuen Mun in October 2019. On 31 May 2021, the land of the Tung Wan Mok Law Shui Wah School and Island Hostel in Lantau Island was officially returned to the Government.

"Financial Education Workshops" on smart financial management techniques
Two online sessions of "Financial Education Workshop" were held for our parents of Family Energy on 22 May 2021. This was jointly launched by the Hong Kong Association of Banks and the Hong Kong Council of Social Service, and supported by the Hong Kong Student Aid Society (HKSAS).

First experience of Kendama. Patience and concentration training
Lok Fu Small Group Home held a Kendama experience activity in May. The instructor taught residents the gestures and simple movements of paying Kendama, and also demonstrated how to create different personal fancy styles.

KMB donates used and retired bus to Tung Wan Mok Law Shui Wah School
Students and teachers of Tung Wan Mok Law Shui Wah School, operated by Hong Kong Student Aid Society, will now be able to enjoy learning on a retired bus provided by The Kowloon Motor Bus Co. (1933) Ltd. (“KMB”) under its Used and Retired Bus Programme.

Children worked together to create a unique art gallery
With the help of coworkers, residents of the Lok Fu Small Group Home turned a corridor into an impressive art gallery. The refurbishment works of the art gallery were all done by the residents, from scrapping, priming, painting and assembly of display cabinets.
